Abstract

Failure detection and classification are crucial steps in the implementation of reconfigurable control. This paper describes the application of the Hotelling T2 statistic to the detection and classification of stern plane and rudder jams in underwater vehicles. Simulation results with and without measurement noise are presented. Results indicate that this method is capable of providing rapid and reliable detection and classification of these faults.
