Abstract

Experimental analysis of thermal comfort in an open plan office has been
presented in the paper. The office of interest is air conditioned by two
parallel ceiling air terminal devices (ATDs). With the aim of mathematical
description of the main characteristics of turbulent wall jets produced by
the ATDs, a set of experimental measurements was carried out using the
laser-Doppler-anemometer (LDA) method. Velocity profiles in the jets,
axial velocity decay and other relevant jet characteristics were investigated
for three distances between the ATDs and three fan speeds. For all nine
cases, in the second phase of the measurements temperature and velocity
fields within the occupied zone were determined and thermal comfort
evaluated. The measurements were carried out in a full-scale test room at
the Faculty of Engineering University of Rijeka.
