Abstract

In the formation of a view of a certain style, the science dealing with art often referred to philosophy, the Gothic style to Scholastics, or Renaissance to Platonism. Reversed influences have remained largely uninvestigated, although — under the influence of modern psychology — there had been statements that images give birth to thoughts as the subconscious gives birth to the conscious. Comparative analyses of visualart, musical, literary, scientific, and philosophical works might delineate the route of such comparisons, yet also point at their limits — maybe in the sense of a border environment, along the provincial and peripheral ones, that art historian Ljubo Karaman postulated for Croatian art.
