Abstract

One of the components of the old Croatian philosophical-esthetical reflection is the phenomenon of music. This phenomenon is here depicted in a brief panoramic survey of the ideas expounded in the works written by the most prominent Renaissance philosophers (F. Grisogono, N. V. Gučetić, F. Petrić, M. Monaldi, P. Skalić). The complex and numerous characteristics, dimensions, and components (cultural-historical, problem-contextual, cosmological, anthropological, gnoseological) are examined in the context of modern reflection concerning the essence, nature, the truth and the meaning of this art as an expression of human spirit, as well as the new concept of man and the world.
