Abstract
The book assesses achievements of the Lisbon Strategy being the EU's major developmental agenda in the last decade that is in 2011 replaced with Europe 2020 strategy as the new paradigm of “smart, sustainable and inclusive growth”. Book is divided in two parts. The first part analyzes overall strategic perspectives of the Lisbon and Europe 2020 strategies, by evaluating achievements and shortcomings of the Lisbon Strategy and elaborating major elements of the new EU's developmental strategy. The second part focuses on selected sectoral issues, where each author evaluates a particular policy in the context of the Lisbon Strategy, its future development within the Europe 2020 strategy and elaborates implementation in the EU member states. This book represents a pioneering work in Croatia because it offers all-embracing analysis of the Lisbon decade by focusing on major policy developments and EU governance dynamics regarding Lisbon-driven reforms. In addition, Europe 2020 as the new EU's strategy represents a building block for the shaping of all EU policies in the upcoming period as it focuses on knowledge and innovation, competitiveness and green growth, underpinned by social inclusion and higher levels of employment. This book is highly relevant for Croatia and other EU candidate countries because it offers a good basis for policy-learning and implementation of best practices stemming from the Lisbon-type reforms that can serve at the catalyst for reforms, thus paving the way for their efficient EU membership.
