Abstract

In coastal container liner shipping (CCLS) operators use different technologies of transport and cargo handling, each of which, having its advantages and disadvantages, brings about certain benefits for the shipping operator as well as hazards which might have direct or indirect consequences. Technology-based risk is always present in business where tools and technologies of substantial value are used. In coastal container liner shipping, technology-based risk derives from a technology-based decision-making regarding the choice of technology that business results depend on.
The paper deals with the term technology-based risk as well as with the relationship between technology-based risk and technology-based decision. It also deals with the factors which influence the value of technology-based risk in coastal container liner shipping.
