Abstract

The choice of an optimum transport route is a decision determined by many factors which primarily refer to the criteria evaluated and analysed while making such decisions, as well as to the decision makers who, depending on the demands and needs of the users, take into consideration different priorities and criteria preference structure (weight). Aiming at underlining the complexity and conditionality of the optimum transport route choice decision, the paper analyses the optimum transport route choice criteria as indicators of the service value, and what is more it analyses who are the service users and decision makers in choosing the optimum transport route. The criteria preference structure is analysed in particular, within which the basic theoretical and practical determinants in the research of the transport route market are elaborated, while the transport route competitiveness criteria and the criteria preference structure are defined from the point of view of the service user’s demand.
