Abstract

This paper is about the importance of linolenic fatty acid and the whole family of w3 unsaturated fatty acids in fish nutrition. The role is dual: they are growth promotors and they are important for human health. The dilemas about the particular role of linolenic acid in food of some fish species (e. g. common carp) are mentioned, as well as the need to define its importance in food in monoculture of some other species (e. g. European catfish).
