Abstract

The application of the Directive 2003/53/EC, published in June 2003 and defining the date after which the cement with an excessive chromium content can no longer be sold, is described. The reasons for this limitation, and current experience with the use of various chromium reduction methods, are presented. Two methods for defining the soluble chromium (VI) content in cement are described. The technical committee CEN/TC 51 Cement and Building Limes has not as yet approved a standard that would define a single reference test method.
