Abstract
Literature, as a space of cultural and historical memory, along with a variety of modern mnemonic mechanisms, is recognized as the potential holder of personal and collective memories. A complex image of a city as a place of cultural and historical memory, a place created by the accumulation of history, culture, and different experiences in literature is very often the origin of the story. In a specific interspace between the author’s memory, memory and forgetting, literary text in which the city is an important structural factor is created by remembering characters and a variety of mnemonic mechanisms. Different places in the story about the city written by Pavao Pavličić, the story how the city shapes personal identity by Mirko Kovač, and an intimate story about the city written by Bogdan Mesinger, all testify to differences in the perception of urban spaces, and reveal the authors’ willingness to experience themselves and their cities on the basis of the adopted initial experience of space.
