Abstract

Starting out from the proposition that the beginning and ending of films are rhetorical high points, using the example of the films Kamenita vrata of Ante Babaja and Događaj by Vatroslav Mimica, this paper analyses the style and rhetoric of their opening and closing frames, which are described as images of enhanced emotion. The proposition about the beginnings of these films as adumbrations or prefigurations of the endings in a narrative and stylistic sense is developed. Particular reference is made to the formation and parallelism of moods, which are fatalistic or mystical and funeral in both works.
