Abstract

Supervision in the area of social care has been systematically introduced in the Republic of Croatia for the last ten years. Directors of social care institutions have an important role and responsibility in the process. The aim of this research is to discover their perception of needs and benefits of supervision introduction, as well as the obstacles in the process. Their attitudes toward the supervision were also analysed. Feedback from 76 of the 91 contacted directors of social care centres and managers of the offices of the Social Care Centre Zagreb was received. Directors emphasise the need for developmental-integrative and team supervision and consider that supervision is most needed to professionals working with families. A shortage of resources and educated supervisors are seen as the most important obstacles to introduction of supervision. The most significant benefit from supervision is expected in the area of exchanging experiences, better team cooperation and better service to clients. Although in general positive attitudes to supervision prevail, directors with personal have more positive attitude to supervision.
