Abstract

This paper offers comparison of the data about the Roman roads along the coastline between Iader, Salona and Narona, the ones preserved in the itinerary sources (the Peutinger’s map, the Antonine’s Itinerary) and the Elder Pliny’s information (Nat. hist. 3, 141 and 142). Under the supposition that Pliny’s data came from the Agrippa’s map they might reflect situation from the early phase of Augustus’ reign. Having in mind excellent connections of Asseria with the road Iader– Scardona – Salona, the conslusion is that the building of this road must have been an additional impetus to fast development of Asseria in the Early Principate.
