Abstract

Anthropology of the senses is the term that has won recognition among competing terms such as sensorial anthropology and sensorial scholarship, and refers to the epistemological approach in anthropology. Anthropology of the senses has been part of the sensorial turnabout that has also enmeshed the anthropology of similar disciplines (human geography, sociology, etc.) and has been gaining in significance since the end of the 1980s. In this text, the author describes the main tendencies that have influenced the shaping of the anthropology of the senses, with particular emphasis on phenomenological tradition.
