Abstract

Experts and connoisseurs of Baroque art in Styria have again faced the difficulties, caused by 1918 split of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, resulting in new states, with their own borders and frontiers. The fact, that helped dissolution of the joint state was a new political borderline, already projected in 17th and 18 century, as well as the language barriers, led the Austrian art experts to include artefacts and arts only found only on their and Slovenian side of the border. In turn, it resulted in loss of data on majority of artists and their Maecenas, under whose patronage the artworks emerged, these data were so incomplete, so that often Slovenian and Austrian experts excluded arts or artworks from each other lists or records.
