Abstract
This paper presents relation between stress and police work trough several domains. Paper gives review of police stressors divided into next categories: stressors as result of nature of police work, interpersonal stressors, organization stressors and family stressors. Paper presents consequences of police stress, also divided into four categories: physical, psychological, social and organizational consequences. Researches showed negative influence of stress on psychological and physical health of police officers, their social life and that police organization itself is damaged because of stress of their employees. Results of researches that examined role of police officers sex showed that male and female officers experienced some different stressors, consequences of stress and that they use different coping mechanisms. Finally, paper gives review of police officers coping mechanisms, and unfortunately, many researches showed that police officers often use maladaptive coping mechanisms like alcohol use, emotional alienation from family and even dissociation.
