Abstract

In the paper the impact of computer communications and telecommunications on the development of office communication systems is presented and analyzed. The list of telecommunications devices and systems is presented and their role and functions in office systems is examined. The analysis of the role of telecommunications in office systems points out, that the development of telecommunications and computer communications has essentially influenced the development of office automation. Three development stages may be distinguished, which are presented in the paper. The paper draws reader's attention to the importance of standardization in automated office systems, specially to the open systems standards. Analysis of the impact of new telecommunication technologies on the future office systems is also presented, as well as the vision of the future of office automation.
