Abstract

The article deals with conceptual and scientifically-theoretical explanations of Darwinism. The first two chapters give an introduction to Darwin’s achievements and point to differences in relation with today’s so called “synthetic” theory of evolution. The fourth chapter talks about the controversial variants of the synthetic theory of evolution, which are important for the ongoing debate between religion and science. The fifth chapter briefly addresses the scientifically-theoretical question about the status of evolutionary biology. The sixth chapter deals with the popular Darwinist slogans that are particularly present in media representations. The seventh chapter deliberates on socio-biology, especially on the border area of biology, which is very susceptible to ideologies. And the unambiguous examples of ideology are social Darwinisms, which are being examined in the eighth chapter. In the end, the ninth chapter summarizes all of the above deliberations into theses. The central thought behind the deliberations is that the evolutionary biology of Darwin’s characteristics is in a scientifically-theoretical point of view a perfectly respectable venture, although it – like every other far-fetched science – hides many holes and uncertainties.
