Abstract

The authoress analyses and interprets the writing »Eulogus, seu de Anima separata, eiusque passione«, a part of the work Encyclopaediae, seu orbis disciplinarum, tam sacrarum quam prophanarum, Epistemon by Pavao SkaliĆ. The issue discussed in Skalić's treatise is the problem of the separate (human) soul's passivity. The authoress suggests that the main problem is actually a determination of the essence of man; within the framework of Renaissance Neoplatonism, this topic is corrupted by religious contents and teachings. The finiteness of human being in all the aspects of cognition, volition, etc., is established as the final result. Against the Neoplatonic Renaissance intention to differentiate the philosophical and religious themes, and against the tendency toward an ali-inclusive Neoplatonic system (Frane Petrić), Skalić - from this viewpoint - realizes the aspectuality of truth and a principally open and improvable knowledge.
