Abstract

Reviewing, in a way, my long-•lasting research into Renaissance philosophy, in this article I once again return to the theme of Renaissance philosophy. This time, the research is neither intended to describe the true essence of Renaissance by a »boisterous syntagm«, nor answer all the remaining questions concerning the epoch; it is an attempt to identify, to show on a specific case »pains and problems of thought«( in thinking and expressing a new experience of the world, which best expresses the characteristic »between« of the Renaissance epoch (between the medieval system of interpretation of the world on the one hand and modern science on the other). This Renaissance »between« (, manifested in the mentioned »problems« that thought has expressing the new experience of reality by the old categorical apparatus, is described here on the specific example of Petrić's cosmology, especially his conception of space, as it is presented in the part of his »Nova de universis philosophia« entitled »Pancosmia«. The problem of expressing the new way of defining the basic categories that describe reality (e.g. the infiniteness of space) by Aristotle's categories is best evident in Petrić's conceptions and his specific dialectics developed in relation to the basic categories of his »new« philosophy (which discusses the ultimate principles of
everything that exists).
