Abstract
After the review of fourteen bibliographies of Ruđer Josip Bošković, compiled from 1761 to 1988 - from Bošković's own bibliography written in May of 1761 to those compiled by Elisabeth Hill, Željko Marković, Šime Jurić and Germana Paoli - the paper presents the first part of the new bibliography in chronological order and with supplements and remarks to Marković's »Popis djela Ruđera Josipa Boškovića« (»The catalogue of works of Ruđer Josip Bošković«). The bibliographic items include three parts each:
(1) Full description of Bošković's work;
(2) Finding place of the described example: institution, collection, call number, ex libris;
(3) Description of the supplements and/or remarks to the data published in the bibliography of Ruđer Josip Bošković within Marković's monograph Ruđe Bošković (1969).
The paper describes 61 editions published from 1736-1988 and three manuscripts, representing the following disciplines: astronomy, mathematics, geophysics, mechanics, archaeology, archaeoastronomy, chemistry, optics, pastoral dialog, instrument construction, gnomonics, natural philosophy, hydrotechnics, poetry, geodesy, architectural statics, hydrodynamics and scientific epistolography. Ten of the published works described are not listed in Marković's bibliography. Six of them were published in Bošković's lifetime, among them two anthologies including Bošković's poems in Latin, and the first published edition of Bošković's expertise of the drainage of the Pontine Marshes, while four of the editions date from 1787-1969. Of the three discussed manuscripts, two were not in Marković's bibliography. Christopher Maire's astronomical reports should be pointed out in this Bošković's bibliography as a novelty in the methodological sense. In the scholarly journal Memorie sopra la "Fisica e Istoria Naturale di Diversi Valentuomini, Maire pu blished hitherto unknown results of Bošković'g astronomical observations at the Collegium Romanum in 1739 and 1744.
