Abstract

This paper focuses on similarities between the Hvar circle and Mavro Vetranović, which are analyzed not only from the point of view of literary criticism, but also from the point of view of cultural history and culture in general. This issue has been dealt with from the point of view of positivist criticism, which is typical of the Croatian literary criticism focusing on the Croatian pre-revival literature. This paper offers a comparative analysis of the relationship between the writer from Dubrovnik and the people of Hvar based on their generational belonging, as well as on thematic and contextual similarities of literary works, and on their common linguistic expressions. Used methodology relies on the established philological and comparative methods, as well as on generative hermeneutics.
