Abstract

As opposed to traditional views on educational institutions as objects on which changes are externally imposed by impartial experts, nowadays schools are considered to be the centers of changes, because they can and should be changed and improved only by its members who are familiar with them.
In that process of quality improvement pedagogues have an indispensable role as widely profiled professionals who continuously work on their professional development and the development of educational institutions they work in. With a purpose to achieve greater employees’ efficiency and students’ achievements, action research of educational institutions has been proved as effective. Thus, this paper provides an overview of important scientific knowledge about action research and explains the benefits that action researches have in the improvement of educational institutions. Furthermore, it argues the importance of action research for pedagogues’ professional development, because they perform roles of initiators, co-researchers and co-evaluators in such researches.
This paper attempts to stress the usefulness of action research achievements at the level of educational institutions, and to encourage their frequent implementation in order to improve the quality of the educational process.
