Abstract

The area investigated is Krapinsko-zagorska county in northwestern Croatia and the topic is the water supply. In the first part major factors of importance to water supply are presented, especially demographic and social and economic factors. The state of water supply is analysed, from traditional forms and small scale local waterworks up to main public waterworks in the county. For the development of a future regional (county) waterworks there is enough water resources in exploatation in relation to the predicted needs and still there are strategic reserves. A possibility of a directed development of a regional waterworks is pointed out, where not all of the settlements have to be included. In the paper, as an example, settlements which are demographically and otherwise unperspective are selected, where, instead of an inclusion into the regional waterworks, an improvement of the local waterworks might be a better and cheaper solution.
