Abstract

In her article the author expounds Cassirer's understanding of Renaissance astrology and attempts to define, on the example of Grisogono, a possibility of a different approach. Like Cassirer, she considers the possible relationship between astrology and future modem natural science as essential. Giving up the attempt to interpret the relationship between astrology and future natural science in the sense of anticipations or historical efficiency, she attempts to interpret, within astrology an idea of scientificalness which is new with respect to the classical-medieval concept of science. On the other hand, the concept of mathematics and of the object of mathematics within astrology, in spite of its proclaimed enthusiasm for mathematics, points in the direction of modem natural science to a lesser degree than could probably be said of Petrić's interpretation of Aristotelian physics. Within Petrić's interpretation of Aristotelianism which in principle (and not only historico-philosophically) calls into question the possibility of a »Pythagorrean « mathematization of nature, a concept of mathematics and of the object of mathematics was conceived which seems to be more appropriate to modern natural science than the astrologico-Neo-Platonist concept of mathematics within the horizon of the exemplar-imago structure.
