Abstract

The use of educational documentaries and video clips in teaching Art
History can be very useful in studying works of art from different angles and different
points of view. There are 3 categories of documentaries that can be used as didactical
tools (those that popularize art, films used as teaching tools, and video clips) but not
all of them are applicable in the teaching process. Firstly, the choice of documentary
mediums has to be governed by certain selection criteria. Secondly, the lesson itself
has to be clearly and theoretically structured, so that the film could be used as a
supplement to other teaching tools. In this article, the use of film as a teaching tool in
Art History class is analysed.
