The paper emphasizes the idea of a coordinated approach in international police (and judicial) exchange of information, as well as analyzes the forms of interna-tional police exchange of information and describes the first systematic way of “linking” the work of bodies in charge of law enforcement on a national level through the so-called ILECU model. A practical review of the circulation of classified information in international police exchange of information has been made, circumstances and problems surrounding every day exchange have been identified and solutions proposed. Finally, the paper presents an overview of the current state of police cooperation and of the framework for the work of future national S.I.Re.N.E. office of the Republic of Croatia after the signing of the Accession Agreement in December 2011. It analyzes preparatory activities conducted through the project of EU bilateral aid, with the purpose of getting an insight into current circumstances and possibilities for setting up a national S.I.Re.N.E. offi-ce. Statistical information have been used in order to describe the core problems of the future national S.I.Re.N.E. office – large work volume of the office, especially in the period immediately before and after becoming part of the Schengen Area.
