Abstract

A long urban tradition, centuries of development and the political, economic and social changes that occurred in the early 1990s are the main factors that have impacted the morphological structure of the City of Osijek. During the Homeland War, all construction in Osijek was halted, and therefore all significant contemporary changes in the area have been made in the past decade. This paper investigates, analyses and defi nes the morphological structure of Osijek prior to 1991 and today, and the processes that have affected it. Special emphasis is given to the processes of changing and rezoning land (construction of multi-story residential buildings in areas previously covered by low residential units).
