Abstract

The article is focused toward the semiotic identity of the contemporary art collection
on the Internet. The debate follows the change of understanding of the art
collections which starts as immutable accumulation of values in the physical space,
and ends up with modern accumulation of variable semantic patterns or instructions
for web users. The author explores visual and semiotic analysis, conducted
through the method of analogy, followed by predicative and incomplete induction.
In this context author demonstrates the application of Peirce’s classifications of
signs on two museum collections housed in the physical space, on their Internetversions
as well, and on several art projects - made in the virtual space of the Internet
- which were projected to create future guidelines for collections in the Web 3.0
environment.
