Abstract

Nowadays, it is impossible to imagine formal and informal education without using
computers and new technologies. Computers and the Internet has become a part of
student’s life - before, during and after the teaching process. Technology development
give us the opportunity not to use only images and written text, but other multimedia
elements as well – sound, video, different simulations and animations etc.
It is important to understand how different media elements function together and
how they influence the learning process and knowledge adoption. To choose right
and suitable tools and multimedia software for education is equally important.
This paper brings the overview and introduction for using multimedia in education.
It brings new terms related to technology and Internet usage in education and
describes different methods for distance learning as well as possible ways of using
technology, Internet and multimedia in teaching and emphasizes their advantages.
Since teachers don’t have to be IT experts, it is necessary to have multi-disciplinary
approach for development of educational content. This text explains project driven
approach for development and roles included in the process.
This work brings principles for multimedia usage during the learning and how multimedia
influences acceptance and knowledge adoption and gives examples of using
technology in teaching and examples of educational software.
Multimedia and new technologies bring broad range of new tools, but also make
possible new and innovative approach to teaching. In the same time, learning is
faster, more functional and more available.
