Abstract
Regionalism is a common feature of all publishing activities at the local museums and mostly determines the contents of the publications. Museum publications, containing written knowledge of the local history, are the sources and results of work on heritage of the local museums. Just like at special museums, the most important publishing activities at local museums are specific museum publications, such as catalogues of permanent exhibitions or individual museum collections, catalogues of occasional exhibitions, and museum guidebooks. Local museums also publish professional and scientific publications which are the result of their professional activities. These publications contain collected reports of archeological, ethnographic, and other site explorations, proceedings of the conferences and symposiums, and various monographic studies. In small communities museums are often the only publishers of the local cultural magazines and almanacs which are an important beginning in various kinds of research. Their contribution to bibliography is also significant, although to a lesser extent than to other fields.
