Abstract

Pain is an unpleasant physical and emotional response associated with tissue damage. Acute pain occurs as a response to tissue injury and disappears as tissue repair. Chronic pain persists after pass the normal course of the disease. Malignant pain as a separate category has the characteristics of both acute and chronic pain, and its intensity strengthens as the disease progresses. It is estimated that one third of world population have chronic pain problems. Pharmacological approach in the pain treatment is based on a three-stage algorithm of the WHO.
