AN OVERVIEW OF SOME BIOLOGICAL ALTERNATIVE AND COMPLEMENTARY APPROACHES IN THE TREATMENT OF CHILDREN WITH AUTISTIC SPECTRUM DISORDER

Abstract

Autistic spectrum disorder refers to the entire spectrum of diversity in the aspects of communication, socialization and behavior. The number of researches on the application of certain treatments for persons with autistic spectrum disorder is continuously increasing. Despite the evidence-based efficiency of conventional approaches based on the behavioral approach, a greater number of children with autistic spectrum disorder are treated with a variety of complementary and alternative methods. In this paper, some biological alternative and complementary approaches used in the treatment of children with autistic spectrum disorder and the results of available researches on their efficacy are presented.
