Abstract

This paper is the introductory section of a discourse on Petrić's criticism of Aristotel's Metaphysics. The objective of this introductory section is .to shed light on and present the philosophical-historical sources of Petrić's Neoplatonic criticism.
A survey of the development of Platonic philosophy up to Plotinus is presented, that is a historical-systematic survey of the fundamental problems of what is known as late Platonism. The basic problems of Plotinus' phi1osolphy are then surveyed and interpreted, which on the one hand represent the end of the several centuries of development of Platonism, and on 'the other are the definitive founding of a new orientation, a degree of awareness, Neoplatonism.
There is also a survey of the relations of Neoplatonist theology, theologia platonica, to Christian teachings, and there is also discussion of the relationship of the Christian religion to the Greek world of education and philosophy.
And in closing, a concise survey is provided of the development of the problem of philosophy of Neoplatonism following Plotinus, up to the closing of the Academy in Athens.
