Abstract

Urinary tract infections (UTIs) are among the most common infections in humans and the most common reason for prescribing antimicrobial drugs. In Croatia around two-thirds of patients with UTIs receive empirical antimicrobial therapy. Therefore, the need for a continuous research, revision and update of the existing guidelines for antimicrobial treatment of UTIs is understandable. This paper presents basic guidelines for diagnosis and antimicrobial treatment of UTIs. Recurrent and complicated UTIs and prostatitis syndrome are described in other papers.
