Folk religion in a time of secularism
Jakov Jukić
Abstract
Contrary to all the expectations of the ideologues of secularisation the
interest for all the manifestations of folk religiosity has increased unexpectedly in our time. This folk religion has been initially investigated by anthropology as a typically culturologic phenomenon, then it was examined by sociology as an example of class phenomenon, to be followed by politological research which views folk religion as a socio-political movement of the oppressed and exploited masses. All these three approaches examine folk religion under its aspect of a socially conditioned phenomenon, which is correct, but they have neglected th a t other very important side about which the science of religions can and should give its contribution on the subject of the appearance and renewal of folk religion.
