Abstract

This work deals with the sacrament of matrimony in the Orthodox
Church in liturgical forms. After a brief introduction the
author presents the development of the rite of matrimony in the
Orthodox tradition, as well as the theological interpretation of
the sacramental act, i.e. the consent of the spouses and the blessing
of the priest as a sacramental sign. Then follows the central,
liturgical part in which the rite of the celebration of the sacrament
of matrimony is presented, i.e. the rite of engagement,
the rite of marriage and the rite of marriage of the “second-time
married”. The third part of the work is dedicated to the liturgical
and theological issues of the mixed marriage between the Catholics
and the Orthodox. The work finishes with the conclusion
that it is necessary to deepen the theology and liturgy of matrimony
as well as the ecumenical dialogue in this area.
