Abstract

Analysing some episodes from the life of St. Francis of Assisi,
the author of the article shows that a clear picture of oneself
is a precondition for vocation. In the first part the basic elements
that were the spring of mental maturity and of making free decision
for Francis (illness, attentive listening, sincerity, relation
to God) are put forward.
In the second part, to make the development of the analysis
easier, the author uses some texts from educational sciences,
especially from those that belong to the psychology of person.
This does not mean that the idea is to diminish the value of
divine vocation or theological formation in the structure of the
vocation, but to understand how vocation responds to the laws
of human freedom, growth and upbringing and develops the
dynamics of human innermost feelings in which such personal
abilities may be awakened that will influence on the growth of
one’s religious awareness, freedom and responsibility.
