Abstract
Abstract As European OEM’s, Original Gear Manufacturers and Vehicle Producers, produce more complex and sophisticated transmissions, own influence predominance on development of European and world gear strongest gear oil specifications is more and more obvious. It emphasizes the following European OEM’s requirements regarding American OEM’s requirements: · Reliable operating of synchroniser unit demands · Static & Dynamic seal performance · Better wear protection and EP Performance (FZG test) · Pitting and Micropitting Test (FZG test) · VW tapered roller bearing Shear Stability Test · High Temperature Corrosion & Oxidation Performance (150 oC) · Extended Drain interval The most significant impact on automotive gear oil development have ZF, MB and MAN, and after that VW, VOLVO and SCANIA. The paper describes short overview of the OEM’s newest requirements and specification mentioned. The special emphasis is on trends and demands for increased oil change intervals.
