Abstract

The author founds his research of the Križevci environment history in the 17th century on some published and unpublished sources. The biggest part of the area researched refers to the Prigorje (Foothills) plateau that stretches southwards from Mount Kalnik. Taking into account strategic and communication positions, indented relief and geological, mineralogical and petrographical structure together with favourable climate and rich waters, one can conclude that in the Early Modern Period this region had optimal conditions for development. The paper should be considered as a contribution to deeper study of the 17th century Križevci and its environment history.
