Abstract

We have presented available scientific information about mechanism of milk intolerance and hypersensitivity, with some useful information for prevention and treatment Adverse reaction (intolerance) to an individual carbohydrate can occur because of an underlying congenital or acquired enzyme deficiency. Intolerance is dose dependent phenomenon, and removal from the diet led to elimination of symptoms. Cow milk protein allergy is characterized by a wide range of symptoms and signs affecting the gastrointestinal tract, respiratory system and the skin. Even traces of the offending protein my precipitate characteristic symptoms. A better definition and application of stricter diagnostic criteria can contribute to a better understanding and preventive treatment of this entity.
