Abstract
To determine the type of ewes' udder, position and size of teats (length and diameter) and on the basis of these parameters the siutableness od udder for machine milking, different measurements were performed in two ewes' flocks (flock A : n = 14 to 13; flock B: n = 46 do 21) in the course of three years. The correlation between udder hinder surface and daily milk yield was also determined. Typical tendencies were observed in both flocks for daily milk production, chemical composition of milk and udder hinder surface. Udder type shows tendency of improvement due to flock selection. Correlation between individual udder hinder surface and daily milk production varied during different phases of lactation and between different lactations (r = 0.35 to 0.99). Results suggest that udder morphology of “West Frisian x Bovška” ewes is rather weak indicator of expected milk production ability.
