Abstract

Spondyloarthritidesis are a group of diseases which, in spite of different symptomatology, share common genetic, pathophysiological, radiological and clinical features. Considering the fact that most of these diseases have a chronic course and can cause considerable level of disability, it is important to pursue an early correct diagnosis and the initiation of treatment as soon as possible. Recently, new classification criteria for axial and peripheral form of spondiloarthritis have been developed and in some setting they can be helpfull in establishing the right diagnosis of these conditions. At present the treatment of spondyloarthritis includes different therapy modalities with emphasis on new, proven effective biological drugs, which were developed on the basis of understanding the pathophysiological mechanisms of the disease.In combination with non-pharmacological methods with the most prominent role of therapeutic exercises, they significantly contribute to improved quality of life. In this article we present an overview of recent criteria and ways of up-to-date treatment.
