Abstract

With regard to the topic of the Church in Croatia in the perspective of the European society, this article focuses on two processes that can be observed and described in the Western society: the secularisation of society, a process that has been evident for some time and described in various, sometimes even contradictory, ways, and the sacralisation of the person, a process that has not been given proper theoretical attention yet. As far as the first process is concerned, the article draws on the extensive study by Charles Taylor about the secular age, while concerning the second process it refers to the research by Hans Joas on the sacralisation of the person. The article aims to bring both processes closer and to open up a space for discourse about the role of Christianity and the Church in society marked by secularisation and human rights efforts, seen in the perspective of the hypotheses about the sacralisation of the person.
