Abstract

Basic data about prestressing cables and strips made of composite materials are presented in the paper. Properties of such cables and their advantages and disadvantages when compared to steel prestressing cables are presented. Examples of realized structures are given for three types of cables, i.e. glass fibre cables (GFRP), aramide fibre cables (AFRP) and carbon fibre cables (CRRP), and a special emphasis is placed on the technologies and types of products made of carbon fibres. The problems with anchoring and with the application of prestressing force are presented.
