Abstract
Giant-cell lesions o f the jaws can be very similar clinically, radiographically and histologically, but completely different regarding their aethiology, nature and behaviour and especially treatment. The author stresses the preventive importance of bearing in mind all the characteristics and contemporary cognitions regarding these pathological conditions, in order to avoid mistreatment, suffering of the patient and unnecessary expense to health care institutions. It is pointed out that all possibilities of national dentistry are not properly utilized in the diagnosis of bone changes caused by hyperparty
roidism, and that uncritical use of the term giant-cell bone tumor caused numerous o f extensive resections of the jaw in cases o f non-neoplastic giant-cell lesions.
