Abstract

Complex prosthetic work is connected with many other, no less important, procedures which indicate the importance of an interdisciplinary approach to solving the problem. It is essential for the patient to be aware o f the need for him/her to participate in the maintenance of the prosthesis even before the work has been completed. For this reason, while the prosthetic work is being performed, good predisposition should be established for easier maintenance of hygiene of the teeth, surrounding tissues and prosthetic work. Another problem is patient motivation so that he/she maintains maximum hygiene and understands the role and importance of daily cleaning, as instructed by the therapist. Regular check-ups are essential, and have proved to increase the durability of the quality of dental prostheses. On the other hand, if it is considered that the patient is not conscientious or is incapable o f carrying out satisfactory care, complex prosthetic work should not be carried out, because of the unsatisfactory hygienic conditions which will compromise results in a very short time.
