Abstract

In this study 50 subjects were examined. In each subject, the terminal hinge axis point was located using Lauritzen’s method. The point axis was marked on the left side o f the face by a steel pellet, 0.5 mm in diameter. Standard latero-lateral cephalogram was obtained in each and traced on a transparent foil under cephalometric
conditions. Long axes o f the first upper and lower incisors and the distance between the point axis and the uppermost point o f the occlusal rim o f the lower median incisor, were plotted on cephalogram tracings. Angles between long axes o f the incisors and the marked distance, as well as the angle between the two long axes
were measured on each cephalogram and statistically evaluated. On the basis o f these results, an incisal instrument was constructed. The incisal instrument can be used in positioning the first upper and lower incisors during tooth arrangement on dentures.
