Abstract

Despite the growing agreement on the admissibility of collecting biological material from indi-viduals with the view of a molecular genetics analysis, there are still doubts concerning the stor-age, processing and keeping of such data. This paper tackles open issues of storing, processing and keeping data stemming from a molecular genetics analysis. That the latter poses a serious concern has been confirmed by a judgement of the European Court of Human Rights which un-derlines the need for limiting storing, processing and keeping of molecular genetics data. This paper is divided into three sections in addition to introduction and conclusion. The first section investigates the nature of data stemming from a molecular genetics analysis (DNA profile). Collections of such data are dealt with in the second section, whereas the third section provides a comparative overview of normative requirements in regard to the molecular genetics analysis.
