More punitive penal policy generally leads to prison overcrowding and high costs of serving prison sentences, with no proven effectiveness in reducing recidivism and crime in general. That is the reason why the penal policy at the European and global level, attaches great importance to supervision and rehabilitation of offenders in the community, the imposition of sanctions and measures which are im-plemented by the probation services in cooperation with other social agencies. States with a long tradi-tion of probation indicate the importance of cooperation between police, probation and prison system, which is supported by the programs that are implemented in this regard and lead to good results. Given the recently established probation system in our country, this paper focuses on introducing a police expert public with this system, with consideration of potential areas of cooperation between the police and probation service in better community protection.
